Analysis of past comet apparitions

93P/Lovas 1

1998/99

Three members of the Fachgruppe Kometen succeeded in observing this comet during 30 sessions. Adding 50 international observations confirms that this comet did not show any significant dependance of the heliocentric magnitude with the distance to the sun:

m = 12.7m + 5×log D.

Until October/November the coma diameter increased from 1.0' to 1.4', decreasing to 1.0' again at the end of this apparition. The absolute coma diameter decreased slightly from 60.000 km to 50.000 in November, but increased thereafter, reaching a diameter of 100.000 km in April. During the whole apparition the degree of condensation was DC 2-3.
