The last published observations of comet C/1997 J1 (Mueller) date back to the beginning of September. This is surprising, because the estimates published so far yield the formula m = 6.5m + 5×log D + 10×log r, indicating that this comet should still be within the capabilities of greater instruments. However, the very last estimates indicate that the comet became very diffuse in August/September (DC 3-4 to 1).
